The History Of DW And Its Audio

If you have lived in one of the most important English speaking countries it will have been pretty hard for you to of not, at least, heard of the Sci-Fi legend Dr. Who! Now that Doctor Who is back on television since 2005 after it’s 15yr pause the series has gotten very popular again, so mush so in fact that even the Science fiction channel has taken an interest in the show.

Thanks to the new serial DW is currently officially the longest running Science fiction show ever with the first episode shown by the BBC on November the twenty third 1963, an episode in which the Doctor and his companions voyaged back one hundred thousand years into Earth’s past to give a hand to some somewhat dim cavemen so that they could discover fire.

During the mid 70s the BBC expanded Dr. Who into the audio median making the first Doctor Who Audio. The 1st releases were for the most part soundtracks from the episodes with linking narration by the Doctors. It wasn’t long before the BBC decided to take the audio releases to the next level by releasing audio book stories exclusively for Audio release.

To add to this the BBC began making radio stories, again with past Drs who had played in the series, these stories were also made accessible in Audio format. Also a lot of of the lost episodes have been re done by their original Doctors in the Audio format making them once more available to the public once more. At the time of writing the BBC’s Audio Book collection currently stands at over 50 . The range spans all the way though the first Doctor right up until the present Dr, David Tennant. Also Torchwood Audio & Sarah Jane Audiobooks have also been added recently.

One of the cool things about Dr. Who Audios is that they provide us the freedom to listen to our favorite episodes anywhere we want with the use of the modern mp3 player. With multitasking becoming everyday more an important part of our lives it’s not surprising that Audiobook sales for both Dr. Who and in general have augmented. Another great factor about audio titles is that they are very often narrated by their original actors, which really adds to the whole experience. They are also a good choice for long car rides, especially with kids as there’s nothing like a good Dr. Who show to keep them busy.

The way things stand right now it looks like Dr. Who and its spin-off show torchwood and the Sarah Jane adventures are doing really well so things look good for us to be able to be entertained by them for a number of years to come.
