Decorative Theme Ideas for Your Bathroom
Posted April 27th, 2009 by adminIf you feel the same as numerous other homeowners who consider their bathroom as little more than a shining glare of fixtures and fittings together with tile, try rethinking how your bathroom could be. It is not that tough, because all you need is your imagination to work out exactly how you would prefer it to look and feel. Here are several design tips on modern bathroom accessories that will warm up the bathroom in no time at all.
Bathrooms, like every other room in a house, should be themed since it offers the space a mood and adds your personality to your little corner of the world. It is where you can say, by design, what is most important to you. There are hundreds of design themes to pick from, including country, dolls, ocean life or even villas on the Mediterranean. The choice is yours, so select the theme that you want. It is a good idea to pick a theme that matches, or at least correlates with other design styles in your home. By doing so, it will not be too fussy, or out of tune with other areas of the home.
Bathrooms in numerous older homes were put in as an afterthought and are literally remodelled closets in some cases. If you are unlucky enough to have a small bathroom, you can still decorate to give the illusion of space by using the right colors. Just bear in mind that with a small bathroom, less is frequently more. Both paint and paper work well although, in a small space, apply neutral colors either on one wall or as an accent on a chair rail. If you decide on conventional white paint or paper, it is a simple matter of accentuating with color using any of the countless decor accessories. Items like baskets, framed photographic prints, sea shells, scatter rugs and even facades will all contribute colorful emphases without going overboard.
Warm reddish tone of paint or paper work very well with plants in the bathroom. However, choose plants that like steamy warm conditions, and that can stand the different chemicals. Some plants just cannot take the mousse, hairspray, and perfumes that are used regularly in a bathroom. It will gum up the plants leaves and they will end up in your trash can. If your bathroom is large enough, you can hang plants from the ceiling, or arrange them on the rear of the lavatory. Large garden style bathtubs have enough space on the rim of the tub to place tiny plants, and together with bath soaps and baskets, they look lovely.
Rugs and towels play an important role when accessorizing your freshly decorated bathroom. For a feeling of sheer elegance, you will not go far wrong with hand woven or deep sumptuous throw rugs. Nevertheless, when buying the rugs, take into account the type of floor covering you are laying them on since they can pose a slipping risk when put on bathroom flooring tile. To prevent this, look for rugs that have either a non slip or rubber backing. Try coordinating your new rugs and toilet mat in either matching or alternating colors. When blended with a neutral backdrop, assorted textures work well to give an inviting, cozy warm feel to your bathroom.
Towel racks are another means to apply a little pizzazz to your bathroom. Decorative racks with colorful towels make a bathroom stand out. You can find towel racks in different tones of wood, bronze, silver or gold. Some folks paint their own wooden racks, and match their baskets and picture frames with them.
Good, functional bathroom lighting is essential as well. The first consideration is for safety of course, but when the room is not being used, night lights can be left on and your cabinet tops could be employed for a small lamp. Lamps can match your theme and so can your nightlights. You can dress them, or purchase them already arranged with your theme. Of course, this all depends if you have enough counter space, but it is a great decorating idea for a theme.
Lastly, if you are at a loss for ideas, look through some home decorating books or magazines for inspiration to get your imaginative juices flowing. You may well come across some themes that you did not even know existed. It is your little corner of the world, so be as unique as you want when dressing your home bathroom
