Decorate Using Color & Fabrics
Posted July 5th, 2010 by adminSome rooms just seem to lack personality and character. Often these spaces are just plain dull or boring, or there’s simply nothing there to create interest. Does it just so happen that this describes your home? Fortunately, you can really add warmth to these types of rooms through the simple use of both color and texture. The best part about it is, you can achieve the look you want without spending a lot of money.
Although there’s nothing wrong with a room that’s entirely beige and cream, often these kinds of rooms can use a little drama. What’s great about texture and color is that you can either create a room that’s vibrant and energetic or one with a tranquil and relaxing feel. Here are a few tips by which you can transform a room from dull to fabulous.
When Tranquility Is What You’re After
Neutral colors give a room the sense of relaxing tranquility. You can create an atmosphere that’s totally calm and peaceful with the colors of Earth such as tans, sky blue, and terra cotta. Go for cream-colored carpets and walls, accented with the hues of the sunset. Keep the majority of the furniture light in color and then add splashes of terra cotta and sky blue in throw pillows, accent rugs, and the artwork on the walls. Choose pillows, rugs, and wall hangings that are either nubby or sleek in texture.
Warm Things Up and Welcome Visitors
With warm colors, you can create a vibrant atmosphere that welcomes anyone to your home. Those colors of autumn—oranges, reds, brown, rust, and navy blue—add a spicy appeal to your décor. If you’re trying to achieve a warm, comfortable look, choose furnishings with bold patterns tha include the colors of fall. To be sure your throw pillows aren’t competing with the patterns of the furniture, choose ones in solid colors that coordinate with the rest of the décor. If you want to create a focal point, paint a single wall deep orange. You can then decorate it with a large print to complete the look.
Jazz It Up with Energy!
Do you have a room or small space in your house that’s just plain dull? Well, why not jazz it up? With bright, vibrant colors, you can make even the plainest of rooms take on a whole new life. For a botanical look, choose shades of bright green, orange, blue, and peach. Or create an accent wall or two by painting them a bright, bold color.
Add some throw pillows into the mix with the wildest, boldest patterns you can find. Liven up the floors with a geometric or abstract patterned throw rug or add interest to the walls with some botanical prints or abstract art. Toss in a few exotic looking plants and you won’t believe the transformation that has taken place. Using bright colors and bold prints makes a world of difference when you’re trying to create rooms full of energy and life.
The reason most people can name their favorite color is that color affects everyone. Not only do colors make you feel calm, relaxed, energetic, sexy, or playful, it does the same for your rooms. If your home is lackluster with no personality, don’t settle. All you need is a little color and texture to really liven things up. Even on a shoestring budget, it’s possible to add character and personality that will totally transform the look of your home.
